Libya’s NTC hands over power to new assembly
BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhuanet) — The National Transitional Council, the political arm of the opposition forces that toppled Gaddafi a year ago, has handed over power to a national assembly that was elected in July. The ceremony marked the first peaceful transition of power in Libya’s modern history.
The 200-member congress will name a new prime minister who will be charged with picking a government, passing laws and steering Libya to full parliamentary elections after a new constitution is drafted next year.
As it prepares its exit, the interim government is working on several recommendations for Libya’s new leaders. After NTC
